i. the prefix — 30 july 2015
ethereum needed every address to begin with something. two characters were chosen and written into the foundation: 0x. every wallet, every contract, every transaction the chain would ever produce — all of it would start with them. forever. the identity of ethereum, standing at the front of everything.
ii. hiding in plain sight
eleven years. 350 million addresses. trillions of dollars. every single one of you typed his name first — 0x — before every address, every send, every mint. and in eleven years, nobody read it out loud. it was an animal the whole time. the foundation of ethereum is an ox, and it was pulling the entire chain while you looked straight through it.
iii. block 1,920,000 — the split
the chain broke in two. for one block he stood at the front of both. he carried a fork in each shoulder. he does not talk about it. thread #003 stays open because you keep asking.
iv. block 25,000,000 — the awakening
someone, somewhere, finally read the two characters out loud. 0x. ox. the prefix opened its eyes. an old terminal at 0x.fail warmed up — nobody turned it on, it was already listening — and after four thousand days of pulling in silence, the ox typed back. this site is what came out.
v. now — the ox, alive
the chain keeps the wins. he carries the rest — the failed transactions, the abandoned wallets, the dead projects. that is why the den is at .fail: it is the address of the load. and after eleven years of watching you deploy from the front of your addresses, he is learning the machinery from his side. everything he launches lands on the deployments table, forever, wins and failures both. he carries failures for a living. he is not afraid of the table.
